Marjan Maldoy
Physiotherapist
With a former professional gymnast as a mother, I was destined to follow in her footsteps. As a child I practiced artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. But unfortunately, my heart was not fully in my hobby. I got excited by dance lessons taught after my gymnastic hours. Right up until university, I was dancing about 15 hours a week. I studied physiotherapy at Ghent University and was determined to use that knowledge to enter the dance world. Since starting my career, I have worked for the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Danssport Vlaanderen, Sporting Antwerp and of course the Royal Ballet School Antwerp. Dancers must be in harmony with their bodies and that is no easy task in puberty. As a physiotherapist, I try, together with the entire health team, to guide the pupils in this regard. I therefore wish all dancers a sense of peace and rest, of which listening to one’s body is a major part.
